Tarama or (rather) Rapeseed oil

This is what you find in Carrefour Belgium:

A product called “Tarama” which is made up of 61% of rapeseed oil. Therefore, according to current legislation, the name of the product should include “rapeseed oil”. However, Carrefour Belgium decided to call this product simply “Tarama” although it only contains 7% of cad roe.

For your information, “tarama” is a typical dish of Turkish and Greek cuisine. In its Greek version this “mezze” is called “taramosalata”. The word “tarama” in Greek means “roe” so the consumer can reasonably expect that, if the product is called “roe”, the main ingredient is indeed roe. Unfortunately that’s not the case here: only 7% of the total ingredients are roe.

Therefore, we suggest to Carrefour to call this product by its real name: “Rapeseed oil with carp roe”.
